INEC to contest every Court Decision

In order to avoid further distractions from its Strategic Plan, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has resolved henceforth to contest every court decision rendered after the time limited by the Electoral Act (2006) for the substitution of candidates. Addressing a press conference recently, INEC Chairman, Professor Maurice Iwu, said after the April 2007 general elections parties interested in such cases could then continue their the regular court case or proceed to the election tribunals. He explained that if INEC acceded to court judgments seeking to change candidates at the eve of the elections, fundamental logistical problems would be created. He further explained that such logistical difficulties could ultimately undermine the efficacy and the success of the elections. |
