The Director, Anglo-Nigerian Welfare Association for the Blind (ANWAB), Barr Danlami Basharu has called on the Independent National Commission (INEC), to develop further strategies of engaging Persons Living with Disabilities in the electoral process.
Barr Danlami made the call while delivering a entitled ‘Understanding Issues of Persons with Disabilities and Mainstreaming in the Electoral Process’ during a one-day workshop organized by INEC on the Draft Framework on Access and Participation of PWDs in the Electoral Process which held in Keffi, Nassarawa State.
Director Danlami noted that the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) has guaranteed every Nigerian the right to vote and stressed further that such rights must be exercised in a free, fair and conducive atmosphere.
He further advocated the inclusion of disability status or otherwise of the voters so as to provide sufficient information on PWDs, as well the involvement of PWDs in electoral duties.
