1. Introduction

The Independent National Electoral Commission ("INEC", "we", "our", or "us") takes a deliberately minimal approach to cookies on www.inecnigeria.org. This portal sets one cookie only, and its sole purpose is to remember the choice you make in our cookie notice.

We do not use analytics, advertising, marketing or tracking cookies. We do not embed third-party content that profiles you. This Cookie Policy explains what cookies are, names the single cookie we set, and sets out the choices available to you.

2. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed onto your computer, smartphone, tablet, or browsing device when you visit an online portal. They allow websites to recognize your device, maintain active security sessions, and optimize content delivery.

  • Session Cookies: Temporary files that expire and are automatically deleted when you close your browser. This portal does not use any session cookies.
  • Persistent Cookies: Stored on your device for a defined retention period to remember your consent choices across return visits. The single cookie described in section 3 is of this kind.

3. The Cookie We Use

The following is a complete and exhaustive list of the cookies set by this portal.

This cookie is classified as strictly necessary because it exists only to record a preference you have expressly asked us to remember. It contains no identifier, holds nothing that identifies you personally, and is never shared with any third party.

4. Cookies We Do NOT Use

The Independent National Electoral Commission operates on strict public non-commercial standards:

  • We do NOT deploy behavioural or targeted advertising cookies.
  • We do NOT run commercial marketing trackers or third-party ad networks.
  • We do NOT sell user browsing profiling data to brokers or advertisers.
  • We do NOT use analytics or audience-measurement cookies of any kind.
  • We do NOT use social media tracking pixels. Our social media links are ordinary links; nothing is loaded from those platforms until you choose to follow one.
  • We do NOT store anything else on your device, including in local storage or session storage.

5. Managing Your Choice

You may review or change your cookie choice at any time, and withdrawing your choice is as straightforward as giving it. Use the button below, or the Cookie Preferences link in the footer of any page.

You can also control or delete cookies through your browser settings at any time (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari and others all provide this). Because the only cookie we set simply records your own preference, clearing it has no effect on how the portal works. The sole consequence is that our cookie notice will appear again on your next visit.
